Bambu Lab Build Plates — one swap, a different print
The build plate does more than hold a print down. It decides how the bottom face looks, how hot the bed has to run, whether you need glue, and which materials you can use at all. Genuine Bambu Lab plates are magnetic spring steel: they flex so finished parts pop off, then snap back dead flat on the heatbed. Pick the surface that matches the job below — all five options are on this page, so choose your finish from the dropdown and add it to the cart.

The five surfaces, briefly
-
Textured PEI — the all-rounder that ships with most Bambu machines. PEI powder sprayed on both faces, no glue needed for PLA, PETG, ABS or ASA, and the highest temperature ceiling here at 180 °C.
-
Smooth PEI — a bonded PEI sheet that leaves a flat satin underside and grips harder. Excellent for ABS and ASA; PETG and TPU need a thin glue release film.
-
Dual-Texture PEI — textured on one side, smooth on the other. Two finishes, one plate, one purchase.
-
Cool Plate — holds PLA at roughly 35–40 °C instead of 55 °C, so big flat prints warp less. PLA-focused; not for TPU or the high-temp engineering materials.
-
Galaxy — a decorative 3D Effect plate that embosses a shifting galaxy sparkle into the first layer. PLA and TPU only, and stunning under silk filament.

Glue on a PEI plate is a release agent, not an adhesive: a thin, even film stops aggressive materials welding to the surface and tearing the coating when you remove the part. Note that ABS, ASA, PA and PC are not recommended on the A1 mini.

Who these are for
-
Anyone running one printer hard — a second plate means the next print starts while you strip the last one.
-
Small businesses and makers selling prints — the plate is your finish, and the Galaxy and Smooth PEI options sell parts on looks alone.
-
Schools and shared workshops — Dual-Texture covers two finish requests with one item to keep track of.
-
Engineering and functional printing — Textured PEI's 180 °C rating is what makes ASA, PA and PC practical.
-
Anyone who has scratched a plate — a fresh surface fixes first-layer problems that no amount of levelling will.
Getting the best out of a new plate
-
Tell the slicer which plate you fitted. Bambu Studio and Orca change bed temperature with the plate type — the wrong setting is the most common cause of a print letting go.
-
Clean it properly. Warm water, a squirt of ordinary dish soap, a soft sponge, rinse well and dry with a lint-free towel. Skin oil is the enemy of adhesion.
-
Handle by the edges once it's clean, and store it flat.
-
Let it cool before removing prints, especially on the Cool Plate — around 35 °C and parts release almost on their own.
-
Use Bambu's own glue stick or liquid glue where glue is called for; third-party adhesives can attack the coating.

Bambu Lab Smooth PEI Plate
If you want the bottom of a print to look machined rather than matte, this is the plate. A 0.125 mm smooth PEI sheet is bonded to each face of a spring steel core, giving a flat, low-sheen surface that transfers almost no texture to the first layer. It also grips noticeably harder than textured PEI — ideal for ABS and ASA, and the reason PETG and TPU need a thin glue release film.
Smooth satin underside
Strong grip for ABS & ASA
Double-sided
Rated 120 °C
What sets it apart
-
Bonded sheet, not powder coating — a solid PEI film adhered to steel, so the surface is genuinely flat.
-
Better Z-face accuracy for tolerance-critical bases and press fits.
-
Glue is a release agent that stops PETG and TPU welding to the PEI and tearing it.
-
Both sides usable — flip it and effectively double the plate's life.

Bambu Lab Textured PEI Plate
The workhorse — the plate that comes in the box with most Bambu machines, and the one most people buy a spare of. PEI powder is sprayed onto both sides of a stainless steel sheet to create a fine matte grip that holds PLA, PETG, ABS and ASA with no glue at all. Its 180 °C surface rating is the highest in the range, making it the only plate here that comfortably spans PLA through polycarbonate.

Glue-free for PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA
Rated 180 °C
Hides first-layer flaws
What sets it apart
-
Highest temperature ceiling here — 180 °C, which is what opens up ASA, PA and PC.
-
Forgiving — the texture masks slight first-layer extrusion errors.
-
Durable — sprayed powder PEI handles scrapers and flexing well.
-
The right home for TPU at 35–45 °C with a thin glue film.

Bambu Lab Dual-Texture PEI Plate
One plate, two completely different surfaces. Side A is 0.075 mm textured PEI for the everyday matte grip most prints want; side B is a 0.125 mm smooth PEI sheet for jobs that need a flat, satin underside. Both are bonded to a single 0.4 mm magnetic stainless core. If you're choosing a first spare plate and can't decide between textured and smooth, this is the answer — and it costs less than buying both.

Best value of the range

What sets it apart
-
Pick the finish per job, not per purchase — textured for functional parts, smooth for display pieces and flat mating faces.
-
Sensible for schools and shared machines — one plate covers both finish requests.
-
Change the plate type in the slicer when you flip; the smooth side needs glue for PETG and TPU.

Bambu Lab Cool Plate
The Cool Plate exists for one job and does it very well: holding PLA down hard while the bed stays almost cold. Where PEI plates want 55 °C or more, this one grips at roughly 35–40 °C. That matters for tall parts and wide flat bases, where a hot bed softens the lower layers and lets corners curl. Prints release cleanly once the plate drops back toward room temperature, leaving a smooth matte finish.
Low-temp PLA grip
Less warping on big prints
Smooth matte underside
Best price in the range
What sets it apart
-
Lowest bed temperature of any plate here — less heat soak means straighter parts and less elephant's foot.
-
Wait for it to cool to about 35 °C and parts lift off with almost no effort.
-
Narrow material window on purpose — PLA is its home ground, and the SuperTack coating also handles PETG. Not for ABS, ASA, PA or PC.
-
No TPU — flexibles can bond hard enough to take the coating with them. Run TPU on Textured PEI.
-
Use Bambu's own glue only if adhesive is needed; third-party glues can attack the coating.

Bambu Lab 3D Effect Plate — Galaxy
This one is about looks. The Galaxy plate is part of Bambu's 3D Effect range, and its coated surface transfers a fine glittering galaxy pattern into the bottom face of your print. Tilt the finished part and the sparkle shifts and changes colour. Over a silk or metallic PLA the effect is genuinely striking — coasters, signage, phone stands, badges and keycaps, anything where the flat face is the face people see.
Decorative first layer
Angle-shifting sparkle
Double-sided
Pairs with silk PLA
What sets it apart
-
A finish you can't slice for — the pattern is embossed into the plastic as it prints, so no paint or film is needed.
-
Design around the bottom face — orient the show surface down and the plate does the decorating.
-
PLA and TPU only — higher-temperature materials risk the effect coating.
-
Set the slicer plate type to Smooth PEI / High Temp Plate, then follow the bed temperatures below.
-
Treat it gently — warm water and mild detergent only; abrasive scrapers dull the sparkle.
