Bambu Lab Extruder Units
$72.99inc. GST
The genuine Bambu Lab extruder unit is the drive heart of your printer — swap in a fresh one when grinding, under-extrusion or a dead filament sensor starts costing you prints. Dual-gear drive — hardened steel on X1/X1E, stainless steel on P1 series for high extrusion force and no slippage 9:53 reduction ratio, 1.75 mm filament — matched exactly to Bambu Lab firmware and flow calibration Built-in filament break detection sensor so failed prints get caught early Abrasive-ready — rated for PLA-CF, PETG-CF, PA6-CF, PAHT-CF and PET-CF as well as PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, PC and TPU Genuine OEM part — correct part number per series (FAE014 A1, FAE016 P1, FAE017 X1C, FAE018 X1E) 🇦🇺 Ships from Australia

About this product
Bambu Lab Extruder Units
The extruder unit is the assembly that grips your filament and pushes it into the hotend. Everything downstream depends on it: flow consistency, retraction accuracy, dimensional tolerance, and whether the printer even notices a filament break. It is also the part that wears — carbon-fibre and glass-fibre filled filaments slowly polish the drive gear teeth, and a worn extruder shows up as intermittent under-extrusion, gaps in top surfaces, or a clicking sound on retraction that no nozzle change will fix.
This is the genuine Bambu Lab replacement assembly, not a third-party clone. The gear geometry, reduction ratio and sensor wiring match what the firmware expects, so once it's bolted in your existing flow calibration and filament profiles behave the same as they did when the printer was new. Check the part number for your printer series in the compatibility table below before ordering — the units look similar in photos but are not interchangeable between series.
Key features
Dual-gear drive Hardened / stainless steel 9:53 reduction Filament break sensor CF-filament rated Genuine OEM
- Steel double gears. Two driven gears grip the filament instead of one, which roughly doubles the contact area and lets the extruder push harder without chewing a flat spot into soft filaments. X1 series and X1E units use hardened steel; the P1 series unit uses stainless steel.
- Abrasion resistance where it matters. Steel gears hold their tooth profile against carbon-fibre and glass-fibre filled filaments far longer than the plated brass and hardened-plastic parts used on older machines.
- Integrated filament break detection. The onboard sensor tells the printer when filament has snapped or run out mid-print, so the job pauses instead of air-printing for three hours.
- Filament cutter included on A1 series. The A1 unit (FAE014) ships with the cutter and extruder motor already assembled, which is what makes clean AMS Lite filament swaps possible.
- A genuine service part, not an upgrade gamble. Reduction ratio, gear pitch and sensor pinout are OEM spec, so print profiles, flow rates and pressure advance carry over unchanged.
- A 20-minute job. Replacement is a documented user-serviceable procedure in the Bambu Lab wiki — hex keys, a few screws, one cable connector. No soldering, no firmware flashing.
What's in the box
Contents vary slightly by printer series:
- A1 series (FAE014): 1 × extruder unit including filament cutter and extruder motor, 2 × M2-2 screws, 2 × BT2-3 screws, 2 × M3-10 screws
- P1 series (FAE016), X1C (FAE017), X1E (FAE018): 1 × extruder unit assembly. Bambu Lab advises keeping the screws from your original extruder unit for the swap
- H2D / H2C dual extruder unit: 1 × dual extruder unit assembly
Nozzle and hotend are not included — the extruder unit is the drive-gear assembly above the hotend, and your existing nozzle carries over.
Compatible materials
Rated for the full Bambu Lab material range: PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, PC, TPU and the filled engineering grades PLA-CF, PETG-CF, PA6-CF, PAHT-CF and PET-CF. If you print mostly CF-filled nylon or PET-CF, plan on the extruder unit as a wear item alongside your hardened nozzles.
Who it's for
- Anyone chasing under-extrusion. You've changed the nozzle, dried the filament, re-run flow calibration, and the gaps are still there — the drive gears are the next suspect.
- Production and workshop users. A spare extruder unit on the shelf turns a multi-week parts wait into an afternoon of downtime.
- Schools and makerspaces. Shared printers see the most filament-jam damage; this is the standard consumable-level repair.
- CF and GF printers. Abrasive filament wears drive gears, and steel gears bought as a set are cheaper than a print farm running out of spec.

Compatibility — match the part number to your printer
| Printer series | Unit | Part no. |
|---|---|---|
| A1, A1 mini | Extruder Unit — A1 Series (with filament cutter + motor) | FAE014 |
| P1P, P1S | Stainless Steel Extruder Unit — P1 Series | FAE016 |
| X1, X1 Carbon | Hardened Steel Extruder Unit — X1 Series | FAE017 |
| X1E | Extruder Unit — X1E (hardened steel) | FAE018 |
| H2D, H2C | Dual Extruder Unit — H2D / H2C (series-specific, not cross-compatible) | [VERIFY] |
Units are not interchangeable across series — an A1 unit will not fit a P1S, and the H2D and H2C dual units are different parts despite looking near-identical. If you're unsure which one your machine takes, send us your printer model and serial and we'll confirm before you order.
Signs it's time to replace
- Clicking or grinding from the toolhead during retraction or filament loading
- Intermittent under-extrusion that survives a nozzle change and a fresh flow calibration
- Visible flat spots, gouges or filament dust ground into the drive gear teeth
- Filament runout or break detection that no longer triggers reliably
- Repeated load failures after a jam clearance
