Bambu Lab ASA Aero is a self-foaming, ultra-lightweight ASA that prints tough, UV- and weather-resistant parts at a fraction of the weight of standard ASA. Heat-activated foaming — dial model density from ~0.97 g/cm³ down to ~0.45 g/cm³ using nozzle temperature alone Built for outdoors — excellent UV, water and weather resistance with ASA's impact toughness Print settings: nozzle 240–280 °C, bed 80–90 °C (with glue), speed < 150 mm/s, enclosure required 1.75 mm ± 0.03 mm · 1 kg net on a reusable spool, with desiccant Available in one colour: White (46100) 🇦🇺 Ships from Australia · GST-inclusive pricing

About this product
Bambu Lab ASA Aero 1.75mm – Lightweight, Weatherproof ASA
ASA Aero is Bambu Lab's self-foaming version of ASA. As the filament passes through a hot nozzle, a foaming agent expands it, so the extruded material occupies more space for the same mass — finished parts land at roughly 50–75% of the weight of the same part in standard ASA. Crucially, the foaming is heat-driven, which means you control the density: print cooler for near-solid, stronger walls, or hotter for the lightest possible parts. Underneath the foaming it is still ASA, so you keep the UV stability, water resistance and impact toughness that make the material a go-to for anything that lives outside.
That combination makes it a favourite with RC aircraft and drone builders, FPV frame makers, and anyone printing lightweight outdoor hardware — wings, fuselage sections, fairings, canopies, antenna mounts, garden and marine fittings, signage, and automotive trim prototypes. It is equally at home in schools and workshops producing large, display-sized models that need to stay light enough to handle, hang or fly.
Key features
Self-foaming — up to 116% expansion Density tunable 0.97 → 0.45 g/cm³ UV & weather resistant Tough, impact resistant Heat deflection 85 °C Matte, low-sheen finish AMS 2 Pro & AMS HT compatible Reusable spool + desiccant
Print settings & printer compatibility
- Nozzle temperature: 240–280 °C — this is your density dial. Around 220 °C there is almost no foaming (~0.97 g/cm³); at 280 °C foaming peaks near 116% and density drops to about 0.45 g/cm³.
- Bed temperature: 80–90 °C, with glue stick on the plate for adhesion.
- Print speed: under 150 mm/s. Slower and steadier gives the foaming agent time to expand consistently.
- Part cooling: 0–80%. Keep it low on the first few layers to prevent warping, then raise only as far as overhangs demand.
- Enclosure: required. Like all ASA, it needs a warm, draught-free chamber — use a P1S, X1C, X1E, H2D, P2S or any enclosed printer, and ventilate the room.
- Nozzle: 0.4 mm hardened steel or stainless steel is recommended. Not suited to 0.6 mm / 0.8 mm hardened steel or 0.2 mm stainless hotends.
- AMS: works with AMS 2 Pro, AMS HT and the original AMS — not compatible with AMS lite.
- Flow calibration: because extrusion expands after the nozzle, run a flow-rate calibration at your chosen temperature and expect to reduce flow noticeably compared with standard ASA.

Tips from the workshop
Print a temperature tower first. Because nozzle heat sets the foaming rate, a 10 °C change meaningfully alters both weight and surface finish. Pick a temperature, calibrate flow at that temperature, then keep it fixed for the whole project — mixing temperatures mid-print leads to inconsistent wall thickness and patchy surfaces.
Keep it dry. ASA absorbs moisture, and damp filament fights the foaming agent — the usual symptoms are popping, stringing and parts that come out heavier and rougher than expected. Store the spool in a sealed box or dry box with the supplied desiccant between sessions, and dry at 80 °C for 8 hours if it has been sitting out. Draughts are the other enemy: keep the enclosure door shut and the printer away from open windows or air conditioning to avoid layer splitting on tall parts.
