Bambu Lab PA6-GF is a glass-fibre reinforced nylon built for parts that have to survive real mechanical loads, heat and friction — not just look good on a shelf.
PA6-GF is Bambu Lab’s glass-fibre reinforced nylon 6 — an engineering filament for the jobs PLA and PETG quietly fail at. The chopped glass fibre dispersed through the PA6 matrix lifts stiffness and dimensional stability well above unfilled nylon while keeping nylon’s standout traits: toughness, self-lubricating low friction and genuine heat resistance, with a heat deflection temperature of 186 °C. It also prints far more predictably than plain PA6, because the fibre reinforcement dramatically reduces the warping and shrinkage that make raw nylon frustrating.
This is the material for end-use functional parts: gears and bushings, drone and RC frames, tooling and workshop jigs, motor mounts, brackets, hinges and under-bonnet automotive components. It’s well suited to enclosed printers such as the Bambu Lab X1 series, P1S, P2S and H2 series, and works on any 1.75 mm FDM printer that can reach 290 °C at the nozzle and hold a warm chamber. Because glass fibre is abrasive, a hardened steel nozzle in 0.4 mm or larger is mandatory — a 0.6 mm hardened nozzle is the sweet spot for flow and part strength. Standard brass or stainless steel nozzles will wear out quickly.

Dry it, then keep it dry. Nylon is one of the thirstiest filaments there is — PA6-GF will pull moisture out of the air in hours, not days, and Australian coastal humidity is unforgiving. Wet nylon prints with steam popping, stringing, a rough furry surface and badly weakened layers. Dry the spool before every serious print and run it straight from a filament dryer or a sealed drybox with fresh desiccant, keeping storage humidity under 20% RH.
Design and finish for the fibre. Glass fibre boosts stiffness along the layer, so orient parts to put loads across the walls rather than pulling layers apart, and add extra wall loops instead of high infill for stronger functional parts. Apply a thin, even coat of glue stick to your build plate — it both improves first-layer grip and protects the plate surface. And check your nozzle: if you’ve been printing filled materials for a while, a worn nozzle is the usual culprit behind sudden under-extrusion.
