About this product
Bambu Lab PLA Basic Gradient 1.75mm Filament
PLA Basic Gradient takes the Bambu Lab PLA Basic everyone already trusts and runs a continuous colour fade through the whole spool. As the print rises, the colour changes with it — a sunrise orange easing into deep amber, or a pale aqua drifting into forest green — all from a single nozzle, with no AMS, no filament swap and no purge waste. The transition happens roughly every 8–10 metres of filament, so tall vases, lithophanes and layered terrain models get a gradient that moves naturally from base to tip.
It prints exactly like standard PLA, which makes it a safe pick for beginners, classrooms and busy workshops: low bed temperature, no enclosure needed, minimal warping and almost no odour. Typical uses include decorative vases and planters, display pieces and cosplay props, lithophanes and lamp shades, tabletop miniatures and terrain, client-facing prototypes, and school or STEM projects where a striking result matters more than engineering strength. It is not intended for high-heat or load-bearing parts — step up to PETG, ABS or ASA for those.
Key Features
Gradient every 8–10 m Single-nozzle colour change ±0.03 mm tolerance RFID auto-recognition AMS & AMS lite ready Up to 300 mm/s Low-warp, no enclosure needed Reusable spool
Bambu Lab's advantage here is consistency. Tight diameter control and clean winding mean fewer tangles and stable extrusion across the whole roll, and the embedded RFID tag lets Bambu Lab printers read the material and colour automatically when the spool is loaded into an AMS. On non-Bambu machines the spool works like any standard 1 kg roll — just dial in the settings below.
Print Settings
- Nozzle temperature: 190–230 °C (start around 220 °C)
- Bed temperature: 35–45 °C (textured PEI or smooth PEI with glue stick)
- Print speed: up to 300 mm/s on Bambu Lab hardware; 60–120 mm/s is plenty on most other printers
- Cooling fan: 100% for crisp overhangs and clean layer definition
- Nozzle: any standard 0.2–0.8 mm nozzle; no hardened nozzle required
- Drying (only if needed): 55 °C for 8 hours
Compatible with Bambu Lab X1, P1 and A1 series (with or without AMS) and effectively every open-material 1.75 mm FDM printer — Prusa, Creality, Elegoo, Anycubic, Flashforge, Sovol and more.

Tips for Best Results
Design for the fade. Because the colour shifts with filament consumed rather than with height, single-wall vase-mode prints, spiralised lamp shades and tall thin models show the gradient most dramatically. Chunky, high-infill parts eat filament quickly and will cycle through colours faster — drop infill or print one model at a time if you want a long, gentle transition. Printing several small items on one plate will give each item a different colour instead of a gradient, which can be a feature if you plan for it.
Keep it dry and cool. PLA absorbs moisture from humid Australian air; store the spool in a sealed bag or dry box with desiccant below 20% RH. If you hear popping or see stringy, rough surfaces on an older roll, dry it at 55 °C for 8 hours and it will print like new. Also keep finished prints out of hot cars and direct summer sun — PLA softens well below the temperatures a parked car can reach.
