About this product
Bambu Lab PLA-CF — carbon fibre stiffness, PLA simplicity
PLA-CF is Bambu Lab's tough PLA blend with chopped carbon fibre mixed through it. The fibres lift the stiffness and bending modulus well above plain PLA while keeping the easy, forgiving printing behaviour and dimensional stability that makes PLA the go-to for most people. The result is a filament that prints at PLA temperatures but produces parts that feel engineered rather than decorative — plus a deep matte, lightly textured surface that does a genuinely good job of hiding layer lines.
It suits makers and small businesses printing functional parts — brackets, jigs, mounts, drone and RC components, tool holders, bike and frame hardware — as well as schools and hobbyists who want display models and props that look finished without sanding or painting. If you have been printing PLA Basic and want more rigidity and a more premium finish without stepping up to the heat and fumes of ABS or PA, this is the natural next material.
Key features
Carbon fibre reinforced
High bending modulus (≈3950 MPa)
Matte, low-sheen finish
Minimised layer lines
Low warp, easy bed adhesion
AMS compatible (RFID tagged)
Prints up to 200 mm/s
±0.03 mm diameter tolerance
6 colours
Print settings
- Nozzle temperature: 210–240 °C (start around 220 °C)
- Bed temperature: 35–45 °C — use a glue stick or PLA-friendly plate for adhesion
- Print speed: up to 200 mm/s — a 0.6 mm nozzle is the sweet spot for strength and flow
- Part cooling: run the fan high, the same as you would for standard PLA
- Nozzle: hardened steel in 0.4, 0.6 or 0.8 mm. Carbon fibre is abrasive, so brass wears quickly; stainless steel is not recommended and 0.2 mm nozzles are not compatible
- Drying: 55 °C for 8 hours if the spool has been open a while
It runs happily on Bambu Lab X1, P1 and A1 series machines — including through the AMS, where the embedded RFID tag loads the profile automatically — and on any other 1.75 mm FDM printer fitted with a hardened nozzle.

Practical tips
Fit the hardened nozzle before you start. Carbon fibre is mildly abrasive and will quietly erode a brass nozzle over a few spools — you will notice it as under-extrusion and rough top surfaces long before you think to blame the nozzle. A 0.6 mm hardened nozzle is the easy-life choice: it cuts clog risk and prints faster, and the matte CF texture means you lose very little detail at the larger line width.
Keep it dry and keep it sealed. PLA-CF absorbs moisture faster than plain PLA, and damp filament shows up as popping sounds, stringing and brittle parts. Store spools in a sealed box or bag with fresh desiccant below 20% RH, and if a spool has been sitting out, run it through a dryer at 55 °C for 8 hours before an important print. Also note that the carbon fibre reinforces stiffness rather than toughness — PLA-CF is stiffer but less flexible than standard PLA, so for parts that need to bend or absorb impact, PETG or PA are better picks.
