Bambu Lab PLA Matte is a low-sheen 1.75mm PLA that hides layer lines and gives models a smooth, chalk-like finish straight off the build plate — no sanding, no post-processing.
PLA Matte is Bambu Lab’s most popular finish, and for good reason. It prints as easily as standard PLA but the surface comes out soft and non-reflective, so layer lines, light ringing and small blemishes are far less visible. That makes it the go-to choice when a print is going to be looked at rather than stress-tested — display models, cosplay props, board game inserts, desk organisers, product mock-ups, architectural models and classroom projects. It is a great first filament for a new printer and still earns a permanent shelf spot for experienced makers.
Like all PLA, it is a rigid, low-odour, plant-based material that prints without an enclosure and without a heated chamber. It suits hobbyists, schools, makerspaces and small businesses running Bambu Lab A1, A1 mini, P1P, P1S, X1C or any other 1.75mm FDM printer — Prusa, Creality, Elegoo, Anycubic and the rest all handle it happily. The spool carries an RFID tag, so a Bambu Lab printer with an AMS will read the material type and colour automatically and set up the profile for you.

Start with the values below and fine-tune for your printer. If you are running a Bambu Lab machine, the built-in Bambu PLA Matte profile in Bambu Studio or Orca Slicer is already dialled in — you rarely need to change anything.

Keep it dry between prints. PLA absorbs moisture slowly, but Australian summer humidity will still get to an open spool. Store part-used rolls in a sealed tub or vacuum bag with silica gel. If a spool has been sitting out and you start hearing pops or seeing stringing, four to six hours in a filament dryer at around 45°C brings it straight back.
Mind the heat, and mind the fingerprints. PLA softens from roughly 55°C, so matte prints are not suited to a parked car in a Queensland summer or to anything near an engine or heater — use PETG or ABS for those. The matte surface also shows finger oils and scuffs more than glossy PLA, so handle finished display pieces by the base or give them a wipe with isopropyl alcohol. Because matte hides layer lines so well, you can usually print at 0.2mm or even 0.28mm layer height and still get a clean result — a genuine time saver on large models.
