Bambu Lab PLA Tough+ is a high-impact PLA that prints as easily as standard PLA but survives the drops, clamps and knocks that snap ordinary spools. ✅ ABS-level toughness — 80.6 kJ/m² unnotched Charpy impact (X-Y), roughly 3× standard PLA Basic 🔗 Up to 2× stronger layer adhesion than regular PLA, so functional parts fail less often along the Z seam 🌡️ Easy settings — 220–250 °C nozzle, 35–65 °C bed, up to 300 mm/s, no enclosure needed 📏 1.75 mm ±0.03 mm diameter on a 1 kg spool, RFID-tagged for every AMS 🎨 6 colours available — White, Yellow, Orange, Gray, Cyan and Black 🇦🇺 Ships from Australia — GST-inclusive, fast local dispatch

About this product
Bambu Lab PLA Tough+ 1.75 mm — PLA That Takes a Hit
PLA Tough+ is Bambu Lab's impact-modified PLA, built for the parts that keep breaking. It prints with the same easy, low-fuss behaviour you expect from PLA — no enclosure, no hardened nozzle, no warping battles — but it absorbs impact closer to ABS, with an unnotched Charpy impact strength of 80.6 kJ/m² in X-Y against roughly 26.6 kJ/m² for PLA Basic. Just as importantly, it delivers up to 2× the layer adhesion of standard PLA, which is where most functional PLA prints actually fail.
That makes it a sensible everyday upgrade for RC car bodies and chassis parts, drone frames, tool handles and jigs, snap-fit enclosures, brackets, gears, clips, prosthetic and mobility aids, and classroom projects that get handled by thirty pairs of hands. Hobbyists get a drop-in replacement for PLA Basic on parts that matter; schools and small businesses get fewer reprints. It runs on any 1.75 mm FDM printer — the full Bambu Lab range (X1, P1, A1, H2 series) plus Prusa, Creality, Elegoo, Anycubic and similar open-frame machines — and it's RFID-tagged for automatic recognition across all AMS units.
Key Features
ABS-like impact resistance 2× layer adhesion vs PLA Prints like normal PLA No enclosure required Brass nozzle friendly Up to 300 mm/s ±0.03 mm tolerance RFID — all AMS compatible Vacuum-sealed with desiccant
One trade-off worth knowing up front: the toughening package costs a little rigidity. Tensile strength sits at 34.9 MPa (X-Y) and flexural modulus at 2140 MPa, slightly below PLA Basic's 2750 MPa. Tough+ bends and absorbs rather than shattering — choose it for parts that get dropped or impacted, and stay with PLA Basic or PLA-CF where maximum stiffness matters more than survivability.
Print Settings
- Nozzle temperature: 220–250 °C — start at 230 °C and nudge up if layer bonding looks weak
- Bed temperature: 35–65 °C (a thin layer of glue stick helps release and adhesion on smooth PEI)
- Print speed: up to 300 mm/s; 150–250 mm/s is a comfortable everyday range
- Cooling: part fan on — full cooling after the first few layers, as with standard PLA
- Chamber temperature: 25–45 °C — open-frame printing is fine, no enclosure needed
- Retraction: 0.6–1.0 mm at 20–40 mm/s
- Nozzle: standard 0.4 mm brass is fine — this is a non-abrasive filament
- Drying (if needed): 55 °C for 8 hours in a filament dryer or AMS 2 Pro / AMS HT

Tips From Our Workshop
Lift your nozzle temperature before you blame the filament. The toughness advantage of Tough+ lives in the bond between layers, and that bond is temperature-sensitive. If a functional part splits along a layer line, go to 240–250 °C rather than reaching for more walls — it's the single biggest lever on Z-direction strength with this material.
Mind the Australian humidity. PLA Tough+ is less moisture-hungry than nylon or TPU, but a spool left open through a Brisbane or Darwin summer will start popping and stringing. Keep it in a sealed box with fresh desiccant between jobs, and if prints turn rough or brittle, run it at 55 °C for 8 hours in a dryer or AMS 2 Pro before writing the roll off. And because this is a tougher, slightly more flexible PLA, back your retraction off toward the lower end of the range if you see grinding in a long Bowden path.
