Bambu Lab PLA Translucent is a tinted, light-passing PLA that prints as easily as standard PLA — ideal for lamps, lithophanes, light guides and jewel-toned display pieces.
PLA Translucent is Bambu Lab’s tinted, light-transmitting take on standard PLA. Instead of a solid opaque wall, prints carry colour and let light through — so a lamp shade glows in Ice Blue, a sign diffuses an LED strip evenly, and a lithophane picks up depth you simply can’t get from opaque filament. It prints at the same easy settings as regular PLA, which makes it a friendly step up for hobbyists, makers, classrooms and small businesses producing display pieces, light covers, model glazing, vases, resin-look props and product mock-ups. No enclosure, no hardened nozzle, no fuss.
Light-transmitting tint Beginner-friendly PLA settings ±0.03mm diameter tolerance AMS & RFID compatible Open-source printer friendly 10 colours 1kg spool
Although it’s tuned for Bambu Lab X1, P1, A1, H2 and P2 series machines — where the RFID tag loads the correct profile automatically through the AMS — the 1.75mm diameter and standard PLA temperature window mean it runs happily on Prusa, Creality, Elegoo, Anycubic and most other open FDM printers too.

All ten colours share the same specifications and print settings — pick your colour from the dropdown above.
Chase clarity through geometry, not temperature. The single biggest factor in how clear a translucent print looks is trapped air between extrusions. For light-pipe and lamp parts, set 99% linear infill aligned to one direction, drop top and bottom shells to zero, use 2 wall loops and turn the part cooling fan down — the layers fuse into a denser, glassier wall. Want a frosted glow instead? Do the opposite: normal infill, full cooling, and a 0.2mm layer height.
Keep it dry. Moisture is what turns translucent PLA cloudy and bubbly. Store spools sealed with desiccant below 20% RH, and if a spool has been open on the bench through a humid Australian summer, dry it at 50°C for 8 hours before a display print — the difference in transparency is obvious side by side.
