About this product
Bambu Lab 3D Effect Plate — 256 mm
Most build plates are judged on how well they hold a print down. The 3D Effect Plate is judged on what it leaves behind. Its surface carries a decorative texture that transfers into the first layer of every print, so the flat underside — usually the least interesting face of a model — comes off the bed looking finished. No post-processing, no painting, no second operation. You slice, you print, you peel it off and the pattern is already there.
This is the 257 × 257 mm version, built for the 256 mm Bambu machines: A1, P1P, P1S, P2S, X1C, X1E and X2D. It is a genuine spring steel plate — the same magnetic fit and flex-to-release behaviour you already know — with the effect sheet pre-applied to both faces. Two spare sheets of the same texture come in the box, so the plate outlives its first surface by a fair margin.
257 × 257 mm Textured both sides 2 spare sheets included PLA & TPU No glue needed
Which configuration is right for you?
All four textures are the same plate, the same size and the same price band — the only difference is the pattern pressed into your first layer. Pick on look, not on spec.
| Texture | The look | Choose it for | Filament that suits it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carbon Fiber | Fine matte woven twill — subtle, technical | Functional parts, enclosures, tool holders, drone frames | Grey, black, carbon-filled |
| Diamond | Crisp repeating facets that catch the light | Coasters, trays, signage, panels, repeat batches | Any colour — pattern is geometric |
| Galaxy | Bold rainbow iridescence, shifts with angle | Display models, cosplay, retail samples | Dark & glossy PLA for max contrast |
| Starry | Fine kaleidoscopic sparkle, glitter-like | Gifts, ornaments, badges, keyrings | Black, navy, deep purple |
Still deciding? If the part is going to be used, pick Carbon Fiber or Diamond. If it is going to be looked at, pick Galaxy or Starry. Galaxy is the loud one; Starry is the one you can get away with on anything.
How it works in practice
- Drop it in. Remove your current plate, wipe the heatbed, set the effect plate down — the magnets do the rest. No tools, no firmware changes.
- Set the plate type. In Bambu Studio or Orca, select Smooth PEI Plate or High Temp Plate. The effect sheet is not in the slicer's plate list, and these profiles are the ones Bambu specifies for it.
- Dial the bed temperature. PLA runs at 60–65 °C, TPU at 35–45 °C. These are tighter ranges than a standard PEI plate — stick to them and adhesion looks after itself.
- Skip the LiDAR calibration. The reflective surface confuses first-layer scanning on LiDAR-equipped machines. Run the calibration on a normal plate instead, or skip the sequence.
- X1 / X2 / P2 owners: turn off Settings → Print Options → Enable the detection of build plate position to avoid false error reports with this plate.
- No glue, ever. Glue fills the texture and the pattern disappears. Same goes for finger grease — handle the plate by its edges.
Who it's for
Hobbyists who want prints that look like products rather than prototypes. Small businesses and market sellers adding a premium finish to an existing catalogue without buying new filament or adding a post-processing step. Schools and makerspaces where a visible, instant result keeps students engaged — and where a double-sided plate with two spare sheets survives a term of heavy hands. If you already own a 256 mm Bambu machine and a roll of black PLA, this is the cheapest upgrade to how your prints look.
