About this product
Bambu Lab AMS — Automatic Material System
The AMS is the accessory that changes how you use a Bambu Lab printer. Load up to four spools, and the printer handles the rest — swapping colours mid-print, reading each spool's RFID tag to apply the correct temperature and flow settings, and switching to a fresh spool of the same filament when one runs out. Between jobs, the sealed enclosure and desiccant keep your filament dry, which matters far more in an Australian summer than most people expect.
This configuration is set up for X1 and P1 series printers. One AMS gives you four colours or materials; connect up to four units and you can run 16 channels from a single machine.
4 filament slots
Up to 16 colours
RFID auto-detect

X1 & P1 series
What the AMS actually does for you
- Multi-colour printing without manual swaps. Slice a four-colour model in Bambu Studio and the AMS handles every change. Signage, board game pieces, prototypes with colour-coded parts, school projects — all in one unbroken job.
- Automatic filament refill. Load two spools of the same filament and the printer keeps going when the first runs dry. Ideal for overnight or multi-day prints where a runout means a wasted bed.
- RFID material recognition. Bambu Lab spools are read automatically — material type, colour and remaining length are picked up and the right profile is applied, so there's less chance of running PETG on a PLA profile.
- Moisture control between prints. The airtight lid plus desiccant packs slow moisture pickup, and the humidity indicator tells you when the desiccant needs recharging or replacing. That's the difference between crisp PETG and stringy, popping extrusion.
- Mix materials, not just colours. Run a support interface material alongside your model material, or keep four working filaments loaded and ready to select.
Who it's for
Hobbyists who are tired of pausing prints for colour changes. Small businesses producing branded or two-tone parts in one pass. Schools and makerspaces where a filament runout mid-lesson kills a whole print. And anyone in a humid coastal climate — Brisbane, Sydney, Darwin — who wants their spools sealed rather than sitting open on a shelf.
What's in the box

Compatible materials
Works with: PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, PET, PA (nylon), PC, PP, POM, HIPS, plus Bambu Lab PLA-CF, PETG-CF and PAHT-CF.
Not supported: TPE and TPU (soft flexibles under 95A), PVA, Bambu Lab PET-CF and TPU 95A, and third-party filaments containing carbon fibre or glass fibre — abrasive and flexible filaments should be fed from an external spool holder instead.
Spool fit: spools must be 50–68 mm wide with a 197–202 mm outer diameter. Most standard 1 kg spools fit, but oversized cardboard spools from some third-party brands will not.

Setup tips
- Sit the AMS on top of an enclosed X1 or P1S, or beside the printer — keep the PTFE tube run gentle, without tight bends.
- Recharge the desiccant when the humidity indicator shows high — a low oven or a filament dryer does the job.
- Keep a matching second spool loaded in an adjacent slot to make use of automatic refill on long prints.
- Cut a clean 45° tip on the filament before loading; a blunt or bent end is the most common feed jam.
