About this product
Bambu Lab Filament Track Switch — X2D
On a dual-nozzle printer, each AMS is normally tied to one extruder — so if the slicer wants your grey PETG on the left nozzle and it happens to be loaded in the AMS feeding the right one, you are out at the machine moving spools. The Filament Track Switch is Bambu Lab's fix for that: a compact, motorised routing box that sits between your AMS units and the printer and unbinds the AMS from specific nozzles, so any filament can feed into any nozzle regardless of how it is loaded. Two inlets in, two outlets out, switched on the fly while the job runs.
For X2D owners running multi-colour or multi-material work, that means fewer aborted prints from a mis-mapped slot, far less spool juggling between AMS units, and a single AMS that can genuinely serve both hotends. It is a small part that removes one of the most tedious steps in dual-nozzle printing.

What it does for your X2D
- Any filament, either nozzle. The slicer assigns the colour or material; the switch routes it. No more matching your physical spool order to the slicer's nozzle plan.
- One AMS can serve both hotends. With a single AMS, the switch supports alternate feeding — the printer unloads one nozzle and loads the other as needed. For two filaments loaded at the same time, feed two AMS units into the two separate inlets.
- The sweet spot is two AMS units. One into IN-A, one into IN-B, and both nozzles can stay loaded for true simultaneous dual-material printing.
- Keeps the path short. Bambu's guidance is to keep the AMS-to-switch PTFE run under 700 mm, and on the X2D the switch-to-buffer run under 115 mm, to minimise feed resistance.
Who it's for
Makers and small businesses printing multi-colour models or mixed material/support jobs on the X2D; anyone running two AMS units who is tired of re-grouping spools between jobs; schools and workshops where the person at the slicer isn't the person at the printer. If you print single-colour, single-material jobs, you don't need it.
What's in the box
- 1 × Filament Track Switch (SA016)
- 1 × 6-pin cable
- 2 × PTFE tube, 700 mm
- 2 × PTFE tube, 400 mm
- 4 × ST3×10 screws (2 used for installation, 2 spare)
- 2 × BT2×8 screws
Please note: the printed holder that mounts the switch is not included and is model-specific. Bambu Lab publishes free X2D holder files on MakerWorld — the X2D and H2C/H2D holders are not interchangeable, so print the X2D set. You'll want a working printer and a few hours of print time before installation day.
Filament compatibility & honest limitations
- Works with the standard AMS filament range — PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, PA and similar.
- Bambu Lab advises against running PLA-CF, PLA Glow and PLA Silk through the switch; these are sensitive to feed resistance and can fail to load or unload. Owners report the same with stiff engineering filaments such as PAHT-CF.
- External spools are not compatible with dynamic mapping through the switch — an external spool permanently occupies an extruder channel. Remove the switch from the path for external-spool jobs.
- On the X2D, high-precision nozzle offset calibration cannot be run with the switch installed.
- Any extra tubing adds a little path resistance. Keep runs short and use the supplied tubes rather than off-spec PTFE — the wrong tube is a common cause of feed failures.
