The Bambu Lab A1 is the full-size step up from the A1 mini — same fast, fully automatic printing, with a 256 mm cube of build space and optional 4-colour AMS lite.
The A1 takes everything that made the A1 mini the default first printer for Australian makers — automatic calibration, quiet fast motion, a slicer that just works — and gives it a 256 mm cube of build space. It is the single most common upgrade we see from mini owners, and for good reason: nothing about the workflow changes, you just stop slicing parts into pieces to fit the plate.
It’s an open-frame bed-slinger, so it’s built for PLA, PETG, TPU and PVA rather than high-temp engineering materials like PC or PA-CF. Within that range it is fast, accurate and genuinely low-maintenance. Full auto bed levelling, flow rate calibration and resonance compensation run before each print, so first-layer wrangling is largely a thing of the past.

Short version: if you mainly print jigs, brackets, enclosures and prototypes in one colour, take the standard A1 and put the difference toward filament. If you want multi-colour prints or dissolvable supports without babysitting filament changes, the Combo is the better buy — the AMS lite costs less bundled than added separately later.

The A1 is an open-frame machine, so high-temp materials that need a stable chamber (ABS, ASA, PC, nylon) will warp and delaminate. If those are on your list, look at an enclosed CoreXY instead. Multi-colour printing on the AMS lite also generates purge waste and adds significant time per job — that’s inherent to single-nozzle colour changing, not a defect. And because the bed moves in Y, very tall thin prints benefit from slowing down slightly compared with a CoreXY.
This is the A1 on its own: printer, textured PEI plate, spool holder and toolkit, for A$447.10 inc GST. If most of what you print is functional parts, prototypes, replacement brackets or single-colour models, this is the version to buy. Full 256 mm cube build volume, 500 mm/s motion system, and the same hands-off calibration as the Combo — you just feed it one spool at a time.
It’s the natural upgrade from an A1 mini. Slicer profiles, the Bambu Handy app and the whole workflow are identical, so there’s nothing to relearn — you simply get a bigger plate and more Z height.
The A1 is AMS lite ready. If you want 4-colour printing down the track, the AMS lite plugs straight in — no firmware workarounds, no extra control board. Bundling it now via the Combo is cheaper than adding it separately, so it’s worth deciding up front.
The Combo is the standard A1 plus the AMS lite, a four-slot filament changer that sits beside the printer, for A$676.30 inc GST. Load up to four spools, assign colours or materials in Bambu Studio, and the printer handles the swaps mid-print. It’s the difference between a grey prototype and a finished, multi-colour part straight off the plate.
Beyond colour, the AMS lite earns its keep on dissolvable supports. PVA in one slot, PLA in another, and overhangs or internal cavities come out clean after a water soak — genuinely useful for engineering parts, enclosures and articulated models. Filament runout is handled automatically too: when one spool ends, the printer picks up the next.
Everything else — printer, build plate, tool kit, microSD card, AU power lead — is identical to the standard A1.
Multi-colour printing produces purge waste at every filament change, and jobs run noticeably longer than single-colour equivalents. That trade-off is normal for this style of system. If nine out of ten of your prints are single colour, the standard A1 is the better spend — the AMS lite can be added later.
Nour Engineering Solutions accepts returns or refunds for change of mind or wrong items ordered within 30 days from the purchase date. Customers need to return the items to Nour Engineering Solutions, ensuring the items are in brand new, unused condition. Customers will also be charged for the cost of the original shipping and a re-stocking fee equal to 10% of the order value.
In case of items arriving damaged or wrong items being sent to the customer, Nour Engineering Solutions will be responsible for either exchanging stock for the customer or issuing a refund.
In the case of defective returns, refunds will only be issued after the items are returned to Nour Engineering Solutions. Nour Engineering Solutions will be responsible for the return postage, and the customer should provide reasonable assistance for the defective items to be picked up by courier, such as packing the items and printing shipping labels.
Once the order is dispatched, it is the customer’s responsibility to follow up the shipment. If the items arrive damaged, the customer should notify Nour Engineering Solutions within 2 business days after receiving the order. If the item does not arrive within 2 business days of the expected delivery date, the customer should notify Nour Engineering Solutions immediately. Nour Engineering Solutions may refuse to refund or exchange items if the customer fails to do so.
In case the first delivery attempt is unsuccessful, the parcel will be forwarded to the local Post Office or News Agency. Failure to pick up parcels within the required timeframe may result in the parcel being returned to Nour Engineering Solutions. In this case, customers will be responsible for the costs associated with re-sending the parcel.
