Bambu Lab PC FR is a flame-retardant polycarbonate filament that pairs the toughness and heat resistance of PC with a UL 94 V-0 self-extinguishing rating — built for enclosures, electrical housings and parts that have to survive real-world heat.
PC FR is Bambu Lab’s flame-retardant polycarbonate. Standard polycarbonate is already one of the toughest, most heat-tolerant materials you can run on a desktop printer — PC FR adds a flame-retardant package that meets the UL 94-2023 V-0 standard, meaning a vertically mounted test specimen self-extinguishes within 10 seconds. That combination makes it the filament to reach for when a part sits near electronics, motors, heaters or mains wiring and a PLA or PETG part simply wouldn’t be appropriate.
It suits electrical enclosures and junction boxes, power-supply and battery housings, machine guards, light fittings, drone and RC components, jigs that live near heat sources, and functional prototypes for engineering, education and small-batch manufacturing. It’s an engineering material rather than a beginner one — if you’re running an enclosed printer and you’re comfortable with ABS or ASA, PC FR is a logical next step.
UL 94 V-0 flame retardant High heat resistance (~114 °C Vicat) High impact strength ±0.03 mm diameter tolerance AMS compatible with RFID 3 colours
Works with enclosed Bambu Lab machines (X1 series, P1S, P2S and similar) and any other enclosed printer that can reach 280 °C at the nozzle and 110 °C on the bed. A hardened steel nozzle is recommended — avoid soft brass-only nozzles, which wear faster with engineering materials.
If you’re printing on a Bambu Lab machine, select the built-in Bambu PC FR profile in Bambu Studio or Orca and let the RFID tag do the work — it’s the fastest path to a good first print.

Dry it, then keep it dry. Polycarbonate absorbs moisture quickly — faster than most filaments — and wet PC FR prints with popping, stringing, weak layers and a brittle finish. Dry a new or shelf-stored spool at 80 °C for 8 hours before the first print, and run it straight from a dryer or an AMS with fresh desiccant. In humid coastal parts of Australia this makes the difference between a strong part and a disappointing one.
Control the temperature swing. PC FR shrinks as it cools, so tall or wide parts can warp or crack mid-print in an open printer. Keep the enclosure closed, keep the part cooling fan low, use a brim on large footprints and print on a clean textured PEI or engineering plate with a light glue-stick layer for release. And remember the V-0 rating describes flammability under a standard test — it doesn’t make a part suitable for load-bearing or certified electrical use on its own.
