About this product
E3D High Flow ObXidian Hotend — for the Bambu Lab X1 Carbon
The X1 Carbon is already a quick machine. What usually stops it going quicker isn't the motion system — it's how much molten plastic the hotend can physically deliver per second. This is E3D's answer to that, developed with Bambu Lab: a redesigned high-flow melt zone that pushes roughly 60% more volumetric flow than the stock X1C hotend, tipped with an ObXidian hardened nozzle and an E3DLC coating that resists both abrasion and sticking.
It's a genuine drop-in. The form factor matches the original, so the toolhead mount and part-cooling duct are untouched, and no PID tuning is required after the swap. Pick your nozzle size and how much assembly you want to do, and the rest is unchanged.

What the extra flow actually buys you
Volumetric flow is the ceiling your slicer quietly enforces. Push the speed slider past what the hotend can melt and you get under-extrusion, weak layer bonding and rough top surfaces — so Bambu Studio throttles the toolhead back instead. Raise the ceiling and those speed limits lift with it: infill passes, long perimeters and thick-walled functional parts all finish sooner, and solid infill stops being the slowest part of the job.
- Production and small-batch work — brackets, jigs, fixtures, printed tooling and enclosures, where throughput is the whole point.
- Engineering materials — ASA, PC and PETG all have published flow figures here, with 300 °C of headroom.
- Carbon-fibre and glass-filled filaments — the ObXidian hardened tip is designed to outlast standard hardened steel on abrasive blends.
- Classrooms and makerspaces — more jobs through one printer per day, with a spare hotend path that doesn't require a technician.
Which configuration is right for you?
There are two decisions: how much assembly you want to do (Complete Hotend vs metal-only Hotend) and how you balance speed against detail (0.6 mm vs 0.4 mm). Flow performance is identical between the Complete and metal-only versions at the same nozzle size — the difference is purely what's in the box.
| Choice | Pick this if… | What you do at install |
|---|---|---|
| Complete Hotend | You want the shortest downtime, the printer is shared or earning, or you'd rather keep your old hotend whole as a spare. | Two screws, two connectors. Fan, heater and thermistor arrive pre-fitted — no thermal grease, no PID tuning. |
| Hotend (metal only) | You're comfortable working inside a toolhead and want the best value per upgrade — your current heater, sensor and fan are fine. | Allow 20–30 minutes to transfer the heater cartridge, temperature sensor and cooling fan, and re-apply the supplied thermal grease. |
| 0.4 mm nozzle | You want faster prints without changing how your existing profiles look — fine detail, small text, crisp features. | Drop-in for the X1C's standard size; existing projects keep their wall and detail behaviour. |
| 0.6 mm nozzle | Throughput and part strength matter more than fine detail — functional parts, big enclosures, composite filaments. | Re-slice with a wider extrusion width to collect the full benefit; expect noticeably shorter print times. |
Still torn on nozzle size? The 0.4 mm is the safe default and the one most X1C owners should pick first. The 0.6 mm is the upgrade you add once you know your bottleneck is throughput — plenty of workshops keep one of each and swap by job.

Good to know before you order
- X1C only. This listing is the X1 Carbon version. Running a P1P or P1S? Choose the P1 Series listing instead — and note that the X1E is not supported by this hotend.
- Abrasive filaments still wear nozzles. ObXidian outlasts standard hardened steel, but heavily filled composites such as carbon-fibre polyamide will shorten its life — that's physics, not a defect.
- Chamber limit. Rated for a 60 °C maximum ambient temperature, comfortably within the X1C's enclosed envelope.
- No power adapter needed. The hotend runs from the printer's own toolhead loom, so there's no AU plug pack or voltage question to worry about.
- Re-slice to see the gains. Update your filament profile's maximum volumetric speed in Bambu Studio — the hardware can't help if the slicer is still capped at stock numbers.
