About this product
Bambu Lab Extruder Filament Sensor — P1 Series (DLB012)
When a P1P or P1S starts throwing filament-run-out errors with filament clearly loaded, refuses to begin a print, or stops recognising that the cutter lever has moved, the extruder filament sensor is the usual culprit. This is the genuine Bambu Lab replacement — the small hall-switch board that sits inside the P1 extruder and reports two things back to the printer: whether filament is actually present, and the position of the filament cutter lever.
It's a low-cost service part that saves you replacing an entire extruder unit. Bambu Lab's own description is blunt about the job it does: "This sensor is used in the Extruder to detect the presence of the filament, and also detect the Filament Cutter lever." If either signal is unreliable, automatic filament loading, run-out pausing and cutter-driven filament changes all become unpredictable — so it's worth fixing properly rather than working around.

What it actually does
- Filament presence & run-out detection. The sensor confirms filament has reached the extruder during loading, and triggers the pause when a spool runs dry mid-print instead of letting the printer air-print the rest of the job.
- Cutter lever detection. The same board watches the filament cutter lever, which the P1 uses on every unload and filament change. A faulty sensor here shows up as failed or hanging filament swaps.
- Known failure signs. "Filament ran out" errors with a full spool, loading that never completes, repeated extruder-related HMS warnings, or a printer that won't release filament on unload.
- Replaceable, not disposable. Bambu Lab sells this as a standalone service part specifically so a single failed sensor doesn't mean a whole new extruder assembly.
Who it's for
P1P and P1S owners doing their own repairs — makers, small print farms, workshops and school labs that would rather keep a machine running than book it in somewhere. The job is a guided teardown of the toolhead front housing, so you'll want to follow Bambu Lab's official P1 extruder filament sensor guide at wiki.bambulab.com. It's well within reach of a careful beginner, but it is not a tool-free clip-in part.
Before you start: power the printer off completely — Bambu Lab warns that working on toolhead electronics with the machine live risks a short circuit, electronic damage and injury. You'll need an H1.5 hex key (the cutter-lever and base screws) which is not included in this kit. The supplied adhesive is used to re-secure the sensor cable on reassembly.
What's in the box
- 1 × Extruder Filament Sensor (hall switch board assembly)
- 2 × BT2-5 screws
- 1 × Adhesive
Not included: extruder unit, hotend, filament cutter blade, cutter lever, or hex keys. This is the sensor only.
Compatibility
Bambu Lab lists this part as P1 Series Exclusive — it fits the P1P and P1S. Other printer families use physically different sensors: the X1 series, P2S, X2D (separate left and right parts), H2S and the H2D/H2C dual-idler assembly all have their own version. Check your model before ordering, and if you're unsure, get in touch and we'll point you at the right one.

Handy to order alongside
If you're already inside the P1 toolhead, it's a good moment to check the TH board FPC cable, the filament cutter blade and lever, and the hotend — and to re-grease the Z lead screws while the machine is apart. Doing one teardown instead of three is the real time saver.
