Bambu Lab Filament Buffer — X1 / P1 Series
$38.99inc. GST
The genuine Bambu Lab Filament Buffer (SA003) — the sprung, sensor-equipped link between your AMS and your P1 or X1 toolhead that keeps filament tension steady through every load, unload and colour change. Fits P1P, P1S, X1C and X1E — the official X1 / P1 Series buffer, part number SA003 Slide, spring and Hall sensor inside — reports filament tension back to the AMS and printer in real time For a single AMS unit — running two or more AMS? You need the AMS Hub instead, not this buffer In the box: Filament Buffer ×1 plus 2× M3*21.5 mounting screws Fits in minutes — 2 screws and an H2.0 hex key, powered by the printer's own 24 V supply (no separate plug or adapter) 🇦🇺 Ships from Australia

About this product
Bambu Lab Filament Buffer — X1 / P1 Series
If your AMS is throwing feed errors, grinding through colour changes, or the buffer housing on the back of your printer is visibly cracked, this is the part that fixes it. The Filament Buffer is the small module that sits at the rear of your P1 or X1, bridging the AMS and the toolhead extruder. Inside it there's a spring-loaded slide and a Hall sensor: as the AMS pushes filament toward the toolhead, the slide moves under that pressure and the sensor reports its position back to the AMS and the printer. That feedback is how the machine keeps filament tension inside a safe window instead of either over-feeding a loop of slack or dragging the extruder against a taut line.
It's a quiet part that does a lot of work, which is also why it wears out. Months of multi-colour printing, filament dust and the odd snapped strand take their toll, and a buffer that's sticking or mis-reading turns into exactly the kind of intermittent AMS fault that's miserable to diagnose. Swapping in a genuine replacement is a ten-minute job and restores correct feeding behaviour on long prints and automatic colour changes.
Key features
Genuine Bambu Lab SA003 P1P · P1S · X1C · X1E Hall-sensor tension feedback 24 V · under 10 mA Mounting screws included Two-screw install
- Active tension sensing, not a passive loop. The slide-and-spring mechanism is read by a Hall sensor, so the AMS knows the real filament position rather than guessing at it — part of the ten-sensor filament path that makes AMS colour changes repeatable.
- Plugs straight into the existing loom. A 4-pin input and 6-pin output, both on 3 mm pitch connectors, matching the factory cabling on the X1 and P1 Series.
- Runs off the printer. 24 V at under 10 mA, drawn from the printer itself — there's no separate power brick and no AU plug to worry about.
- Tool-light replacement. Two screws and an H2.0 hex key hold the buffer in place. (If you're also replacing the AMS hub board in the same session, note that's a different step with three H1.5 screws.)
- Genuine part, correct fit. Bambu Lab's own SA003 module, so the mounting points, connector pinout and sensor response all match what your firmware expects.
Who it's for
Anyone running a single AMS on a P1P, P1S, X1C or X1E. Typical buyers are makers whose AMS has started mis-feeding after a year or two of heavy multi-material work, small businesses and print farms keeping a spare on the shelf so a failed buffer doesn't cost a day of production, and schools and makerspaces where the machines get handled by a lot of different people and the rear-mounted modules take knocks. It's also the right part if a filament jam or a tube removal has physically damaged the buffer housing.
When to replace your buffer
Bambu Lab's guidance is straightforward: replace the buffer when the AMS is malfunctioning and inspection shows the buffer is visibly damaged, or when Bambu support has diagnosed the buffer as the cause. In practice the symptoms that lead people here are:
- Repeated AMS feed or retract errors that don't resolve after clearing the filament path
- Visible cracks, a broken mount, or a slide that doesn't move freely and spring back
- Debris, filament fragments or dust packed into the buffer channel
- Unreliable automatic colour changes on long prints while the AMS itself tests fine
Buffer or AMS Hub? Read this first
This buffer is the correct part for a printer running one AMS unit. If you run two or more AMS units on the same printer, Bambu Lab's design uses the AMS Hub in place of the Filament Buffer — a different part, sold separately. Check how many AMS units you're feeding before you order. Also note that the H2, P2S and X2D series use their own buffer modules; this SA003 is specific to the X1 and P1 Series.
What's in the box
- 1 × Bambu Lab Filament Buffer (SA003), X1 / P1 Series
- 2 × M3*21.5 mounting screws
An H2.0 hex key is needed for fitting — the one supplied in your printer's accessory kit does the job.
